Monday’s Top 5

This week, Brain Buckley asked and answered the question, “Do you actually ENJOY writing?” It’s a question I’ve been asked when I’ve been complaining about one aspect or another of the writing process, and I found that Brian’s post helped me clarify my own thoughts on the matter.]

Meanwhile, Laura Stanfill found herself suffering a little from the “publishing industry blues” and sent a call out for all writers to share their good news. There’s some fantastic answers there, and I highly encourage you to go check them out, bask in the positivity, and add your own success story.

I keep promising myself not to do any (more) Twilight bashing, but then something like this comes along. First, let me just say that I have nothing against the fans of Twilight, I have nothing against the books (they’re just not my thing), and I don’t think Stephanie Meyer is single-handedly responsible for the downfall of the publishing industry. But I do think this is the funniest plot-summary I’ve ever read. Check out This Post will be Unpopular at Ramblings and Rumblings.

Abigail from Oh My Words! has yet another great post this week. She notes that when you tell someone you’re tired, they often just nod and smile and say, “Me too.” But wouldn’t it be nice if sometimes they played along, stand-up comedy style, and asked [How tired ARE you?].

Lily from Bedtimes are for Suckers is back with a helpful flow-chart to help you make those difficult de-cluttering decisions, like whether to Keep or Toss the headless Barbie doll that you haven’t played with since your ill-fated Pirate-phase. I think there’s some useful advice here for children and adults alike. Click through to read the Confessions of a 5-year-old Hoarder.

  1. Thanks so much for the shout-out. Am in the process of becoming a subscriber.

  2. Awww! Jo! I am once again honored to be among the chosen ones! (Especially because the particular post you promoted was a bit of a last minute effort…)
So happy to count you as one of my readers!

    • You’re welcome! That post really struck a chord for me. Perhaps because I was recently dealing with new-baby-syndrome, and getting 2 hours sleep a night, and “exhausted” just wasn’t a strong enough word. 🙂 Very, very funny post.

  3. I liked Brian’s post about enjoying writing (I enjoy it myself, as you may have been able to tell). I also liked his earlier post that he linked to, about how easy writing actually is.

You sit down and you move your fingers. Yup.

  4. Thanks for linking to my happiness post, Jo! And yes, everyone please do stop by and add to the writerly joy with your good news, or your friend’s good news.

  5. These look great! I can’t wait to read some Twilight bashing!!

Speak to me.
